This morning and over recent weeks
Dorset Police has received numerous reports of arson attacks on
motor cars on the Littlemoor Estate. There has also been a series
of incidents where entry to motor vehicles has been
forced.
This morning officers were called to reports
of a car on fire in Beverley Road. As a result of a police
investigation four people have been arrested on suspicion of arson
and theft from motor vehicles. They are currently in police custody
and are helping officers with their enquiries.
Four people have been arrested on suspicion of
arson – a 41-year-old man, a 19-year-old man, a 15-year-old girl
and a 16-year-old boy. All are from Weymouth.
Sergeant Steve Yeoman, of Littlemoor Safer
Neighbourhood Team, said: “It is unusual to have this number of
incidents in Littlemoor and I believe the community is suffering at
the hands of a few individuals and we will not tolerate this.
"The Littlemoor SNT is working closely with
partner agencies to address this issue.
"I am pleased to note that the Littlemoor
community is rallying together and I continue to urge anyone with
any information to contact us on 101 or use Crimestoppers. All
calls are treated in strictest of confidence and we take all
reports very seriously.”
Weymouth and Portland Inspector Fry added: “We
are determined to stop the people responsible. We are working hard,
using a wide range of resources and tactics to catch these
offenders.”
