Burglary and theft in Sherborne - Witness appeal

Officers in Sherborne are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward following a burglary and a theft from a motor vehicle at two addresses in Over Compton – police believe the events are linked.

The theft from a motor vehicle occurred between 5.30pm on Monday 17 September 2012 and 10am on Tuesday 18 September 2012, at the County Car Company on Yeovil Road.

Thieves broke into a white Citroen van by removing a side window and stole tools from inside.

The burglary occurred between 10.30pm on Monday 17 September 2012 and 10.30am on Tuesday 18 September 2012, at the Fortune Palace Restaurant which is situated next to the County Car Company.

Thieves broke into the restaurant using tools to force the front door. A quantity of cash and alcohol was stolen.

Police Constable Matt Speechley, of Sherborne Police, said: “We believe that the same offenders committed both crimes and it is possible that tools stolen from the van were used to force the door of the restaurant.

“Our investigation has so far revealed that we are looking for two offenders, both men of medium build. They were wearing thin mask like balaclavas and light coloured clothing.

“These premises are on a busy road and it is possible that someone saw something suspicious. We are very keen to hear from anyone who has any information.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident numbers 18:131 and 18:161. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
