Appeal after bicycle theft in Bournemouth

Police in Bournemouth are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward following the theft of a bicycle from the Winton area of the town.

The incident, in which the frame and a wheel of a Specialized mountain bike was stolen from a private alleyway on Wimborne Road, happened sometime between Tuesday 12 June 2012 and Thursday 14 June 2012.

Police Constable Lee Harrison, of Bournemouth police, said: “This is the second time in two weeks the victim has had a bicycle stolen from the same location.

“On Monday 4 June 2012 they had a Claude Butler bike taken, which is believed to have been sold on the internet advertising website Gumtree.

“The victim is due to complete a charity bike ride in the next few weeks and has been unable to train as a result of this theft.

“I would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed either of these incidents or seen any suspicious behaviour.

“Also, I would urge anyone who may have bought a Claude Butler bike on Gumtree, or been offered Specialized bike parts at an unusually cheap price in the last few days to contact Dorset Police.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 15:183. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
