Reported serious sexual assault in Bournemouth - Witness appeal

Detectives in Bournemouth are appealing for witnesses and information after a report of a serious sexual assault in Bournemouth Gardens.

The incident, in which two men allegedly lured an 18-year-old woman into bushes, before seriously sexually assaulting her, happened near to the crazy golf facility in Bournemouth Gardens, between 11pm and midnight on Saturday, 24 July 2010.

The alleged offenders are described as being white, aged between 16 and 18. One of the men was wearing a grey top at the time of the incident.

Detective Constable Nick Hodge, of Bournemouth & Poole Public Protection Unit, said: “Prior to the assault the victim was in Bournemouth Gardens, looking for her mobile phone.

“The victim is reported to have been lured into bushes by two men who claimed to know where her phone was and could help her get it back. They are then reported to have sexually assaulted her.

“I am keen to hear from anyone who saw or heard any suspicious activity around the crazy golf facility between 11pm and midnight on Saturday, 24 July 2010.

“This was a nasty and unprovoked attack and I’d urge anyone who has any information about this incident to call police immediately.

“While this type of incident is extremely rare, I would urge people to take care when they are out and about at night, and, where possible, to avoid walking around alone.”

An 18-year-old Bournemouth man was arrested in connection with the alleged offence and released on bail while enquiries continue.

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 01202 or 01305 22 22 22 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
