A pupil at
Allenbourne Middle School in Wimborne has won a competition to
design a poster that will be used to publicise the East Dorset Blue
Light Roadshow.
Beth Kirby, a year six pupil, came up with the winning design
after local school children were asked to design a poster that
would be used to advertise the roadshow in the area.
Ben Bassinder, year five, and Caitlin Banyard,
year seven, were both also highly commended for their designs. All
three pupils were awarded prizes by Inspector Neil Leat, East
Dorset Section Commander.
The roadshow takes place from 11am to 4pm on
Sunday 8 August 2010 at Wimborne Police/Fire Station on Allenview
Road in Wimborne and will showcase the demanding and varied work of
the emergency services and their partner agencies through
exhibitions and interactive demonstrations.
Organiser of the roadshow, Sergeant Alan
Setchell said: “The Blue Light Roadshow is a free and informative
day for the East Dorset community and is an opportunity for local
residents to meet their local emergency services and get invaluable
advice on personal safety, crime and fire prevention. It will also
offer plenty of fun for all ages to enjoy.
“The poster competition
was a great way of getting young people involved with preparations.
Beth’s imaginative and colourful design has captured our excitement
about the day.”
Following the success of
the last Blue Light Day in 2008, the popular Dorset Police open day
has taken to the road this summer in a series of roadshow events
across Dorset.
Those that attend the event will be the first
to experience and navigate the ‘Smoke Tent’ that safely replicates
a smoke filled room of a house fire. There will also be a variety
of displays throughout the day from Dorset Fire and Rescue Service
and from the Dorset Police Dog Section and Firearms Department.
Posters of Beth’s winning design can now be
seen in towns and villages in East Dorset.
