How BikeSafe Works

Bike Safe Dorset LogoBikeSafe is all about enhancing your riding skills. We will give you an insight into advanced motorcycling whilst assessing your riding and pointing out any dangerous weaknesses you may have. It is delivered on real roads by real bikers. We won't teach you to suck eggs. But we will look at how you ride and what you can do to make it safer. You may just pick up a tip that could save your life one day.

Chris Smith BikeSafe Co-ordinator presenting lectureOnce you apply to join BikeSafe we will contact you and provide you further information as to the scheme and how we operate. Due to the overwhelming demand for assessments, the places are limited and as such we focus on those riders whom are at particular risk on our roads. This risk is identified in our initial forms that we send to you.

Once accepted for an assessment, you will be issued with a course date. BikeSafe comprises of an initial presentation module followed by the ride out and assessment. We believe that through the use of both theoretical and practical modules this will increase your skills and knowledge. The assessor will take you out onto our local roads and assess your riding over a varied route. This will take 2 hours and be based on a three to one ratio of bikers to assessor. Your assessor will plan stops and debriefs along the route and highlight what you're doing right and what you're doing wrong. You can then discuss with the assessor how you can improve and what you need to do to make your riding safer. At the end of each ride-out you will be debriefed again and receive a certificate showing your achievement.
