Car damaged following Bridport arson attack

Police in Bridport are appealing for witnesses and information after an arson attack to a vehicle between Gore Cross and Melplash.

A black Mitsubishi L200 pick-up truck was parked in a lay-by near Bingham’s Farm on the A3066 – the Bridport to Beaminster road – when it was set alight between 9.30pm and 10pm on Saturday, 31 October 2009.

The vehicle, belonging to a 49-year-old Beaminster man, received extensive damage to its interior.

Police Constable Brian Puttock, of Bridport police, said: "Arson attacks can be incredibly dangerous and it is fortunate that no-one was seriously hurt as a result of this incident.

"I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this attack on Saturday, 31 October, and anyone who has any information about those responsible, to contact me urgently.

"I would also like to speak to anyone, perhaps a passing motorist, who may have noticed a black Mitsubishi parked along this stretch of road on Saturday night and who may have noticed any other people or vehicles near it at any time.

"Any information will be treated in the strictest of confidence."

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 01305 222 222 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111, where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
