The Police and Crime Commissioner takes office on 22 November
2012. A number of Force policies/procedures, strategies and
protocols currently refer to the Police Authority (either just as a
reference to them by name, or concerning a role that they play
within the process). Such references continue to apply until
the Police Authority is abolished at midnight on 21 November.
Force policies/procedures etc that include a particular power or
role performed by the DPA have been identified, the
policy owners are being informed and updates will be produced
urgently to reflect the new governance requirements.
Other than those documents specifically
identified for such updates, all other general references to the
Police Authority throughout the policy/procedure documents will
apply to the PCC instead. In
the months following the arrival of the PCC, all documents
should be updated to reflect the new governance/scrutiny as
appropriate, whilst incorporating any changes that the
PCC may
wish to make, relating to their role within the process.
Dorset Police are committed to the principles of openness and
will always value the public's opinions on both policies and
operational practices. In order to establish the views and concerns
of both minority groups and the community as a whole, an integral
process is "public consultation". This ensures we are aware of how
policies impact upon you and that they meet your needs.
Please follow this link (Consultation
Page) to policies where we are presently seeking active
consultation. If you have any views on these or any
other Dorset Police policy please reply using our on-line form. All
replies will be treated in confidence. On occasions we may
seek further information on your views. If you do not wish to be
contacted please mention this in your reply. Please state the name
of the policy within your heading.
