Police in Swanage are stepping up weekend patrols of
Burlington Chine following reports of beach parties resulting in
anti-social behaviour and criminal damage.
Members of the public have reported large
groups of young people gathering on the beach and consuming
quantities of alcohol, resulting in damage to beach huts and broken
beer bottles scattered along the footpath and beach.
The incidents are reported to be most
prevalent on Friday and Saturday evenings during the summer.
Sergeant Des Connor from Swanage Safer
Neighbourhood Team says: “We do want young people to be able to
have a good time but this type of behaviour is irresponsible and
can have a lasting effect on victims.
“The potential injuries that could be caused
by the broken glass don’t bear thinking about.
“We shall be paying particular attention to this area of the
beach in the evenings for the duration of the summer and will be
seizing alcohol from those drinking illegally.”
